Climate change has become a very prominent global issue, with considerations of the profound ways it could affect the natural environment, socio-economic landscape, and human life, in general. To help faculty and students understand the importance of climate change in an engaging manner, the General Knowledge Center at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) held its first-ever “Has the University Climate Changed?” challenge from October 27 to October 31.
The event transformed climate change knowledge into a series of fun and challenging activities with diverse themes. The design allowed the participants to deepen their understanding and develop new considerations of environmental sustainability playing games. Furthermore, they had an opportunity to gain professional knowledge and get inspired about campus and social responsibility.
Funding for the activity was provided through the Special Interest Group (SIG) Project of NPUST’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Professor Herlin Chien and a team of faculty from the General Knowledge Center organized the activities and worked together to create integrated course content.
Based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13: “Climate Action”. Seven distinct stations were designed to address various aspects of climate change including:
- “Agricultural Waste Gold Panner” (Board Game)
- “Write a Song to Save the Earth”
- “Disaster Movie/Apocalypse Novel Reflection”
- “Drought-Resistant Plants”
- “How Much Do You Know About Natural Disasters?”
- “Intergenerational Justice and Ethics”
- “Sustainable Afternoon Tea DIY”
Through the diverse activities and the hands-on experiences, the event hoped to foster a greater understanding of and concern for global climate change among students.
