NPUST, the Kaohsiung City Government, and the Air Force Institute of Technology teamed up to put on this year’s “Little Aerospace Engineer” activity to foster interest in aviation science among local youth. The activity was held at Zhaoxiang Elementary School in North Kaohsiung from February 6th to 8th, 2023.
North Kaohsiung is divided into nine administrative regions, with Gangshan at the center. Gangshan also serves as a base camp for training air force pilots and ground maintenance personnel, which has created industry opportunities for countless of screw and aerospace component manufacturers in the surrounding area. For the Kaohsiung City Education Bureau, the “Little Aerospace Engineer” activity is a valuable avenue of promotion, which is now in its tenth year. This year, the activity was planned by professor Chang-Hsien Tai and Hudson Hsu of NPUST, Dr. Chia-Wei Hsu of the Air Force Institute of Technology, and Dr. Ying-chun Wang of NKUHT. The activity, which integrated features of the local industry culture, was subsidized by National Science and Technology Council, the Ministry of Education, and the Agong Rotary Club. Seven professors were drafted to instruct the classes, which covered Air Force history, principles of flying, shockwave air cannons, 360-degree rotary aircraft, gliders, simulator operations, and large RC drone flying. The activities were an amazing experience for the participating elementary and middle school students, and it opened them up to the possibilities awaiting them in the future if they set their ambitions on the world of aviation science.
