Running Strong: NPUST Celebrates 98 Years

NPUST is celebrating its 98th anniversary this year, and on November 14 the annual Sports Week and University Celebration kicked off according to tradition with a campus run.

With five days of activities organized for the week ahead, NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang opened the event with a speech saying “NPUST is the only university in Taiwan to be situated on such a large and beautiful campus. With beautiful scenery in every corner, we hope that all our students, faculty, and staff members will add to their studies and work by finding time to take part in physical activities on campus and exercise body and mind. Today we invite everyone at the school, both young and old, to take part in the campus road run and kick off our 98th anniversary celebration together.”

The youngest runners on campus, coming from the university kindergarten, were the first to the starting blocks. For the bigger participants, competitions were organized according to male and female divisions for both teacher/staff groups and student groups—with “A” groups running five kilometers and “B” group running three. President Chin-Lung Chang personally fired the gun to set the runners off on a race that started in front of Mengxiang Gymnasium then past the stadium, botanical garden, tropical orchard, lychee garden, pasture area, and Lover’s Hill. The route gave everyone a nice tour of the environment and allowed them take in the beauty of the campus while they ran.

At the finish line, raffles were held for the participants in each of the groups. Everyone who completed the race within the allotted time received one raffle ticket and was eligible to win department store gift vouchers, an iPad Air, or one of two iPhone 14 mobile phones. With such enticing prizes up for grabs, the event stirred a lot of excitement and added to the fun and festive experience of the first event of the 98th anniversary celebration.
