International College Holds Art Exhibit for Winning Paintings

On September 15, 2022, an opening ceremony was held for a joint exhibition of the winning entries to the 1st ~5th International College of Painting Competition. The 42 works going on display at the Art and Culture Center on the 3rd floor of the Library and Conference Hall were selected from competitions held by the International College from 2018 to 2022. The artists behind the works include international students from a variety of countries including Indonesia, Thailand, Nepal, Belize, Honduras, Gambia, Guatemala, Malaysia, Vietnam, India, Dominican Republic, and Taiwan. Each painting reflects the cultural characteristics of the students’ home countries—and many of them are comparable to professional works. The exhibition will run from September 12th to October 6th, 2022, and welcomes interested students to come and observe the talented artistic contributions.

In order to unite members of the college and promote cultural exchanges among students from all over the world, the International College has been holding the “International Student Painting Competition” since 2018. The unifying feature of the created works, regardless of the theme, is that participating students have all been required to use watercolor, oil paint, crayons, pastels, pencils, multi-media collages and other tools or methods to produce works of art that represent the beauty and unique cultural characteristics of different countries.

Dozens of outstanding works from the past five years have been assembled by the college. And in addition to displaying them on the walls for people to view, in order to expand their reach, the winning works have also been made into postcards and promotional paper bags which are used during recruitment activities or given as gifts during international exchanges. The aim is to help students become familiar with and appreciate foreign cultures while also enhancing more people’s impression of the NPUST International College, at home and abroad—and ultimately, attracting more recruits to the university.
