NPUST 97th Celebration Games: Join the Fun

On March 24th the opening ceremony was held for the university’s 97th Anniversary Celebration Games, which took place on the 24th and 25th. This year, under the guidance of the university president, Chang-Hsien Tai, the “Creative Arena Entrance Competition” and cheerleader performance were held once again. With 17 administrative units, 46 departments and the university kindergarten participating, spectators witnessed a great demonstration of the creativity, health, vitality and “sunshine” of the people of NPUST. In a representation of good sportsmanship, two gold medalist athletes, Ming-Jie Hsu from the Department of Biomechatronics and Minying Wu from the Department of Recreation Sports and Health Promotion, were invited to serve as representatives to declare on behalf of everyone that all the rules of the games and the judgments of the referees would be abided by. During the ceremony, the “2021 Sports Competition Performance Award” was also held for the university sports teams which received awards at the college softball championships, the college volleyball championships, a national college Taekwondo competition, and men’s and women’s billiards.

University President, Chang-Hsien Tai, said “through the annual school games, everyone studying at the university has a chance during their four years of study to participate and create fond memories with their schoolmates and teachers. NPUST has the largest campus in the country, and the most comprehensive sports facilities— and we hope that by providing the best facilities every student will be encourage to make good use of them. Finally, I wish health and success in all things to all the students, teachers and staff of NPUST”

For the finale of the opening ceremony, the Lightning Knights cheerleading team gave an amazing performance. And in order to give it their best, the team began practicing and preparing months in advance. Their strength, skill and synergy got the adrenaline of the audience moving, and gave everyone a sense of youthful enthusiasm and unity.

From the campus road race on the 21st, right through to the explosive track and field events on the 24th, students and teachers from the university continuously demonstrated school spirit, closeness to the land and love for sports. Keeping with the usual practice, the always-entertaining tug-of-war championship and field day competitions, which took place on the afternoon of the 24th, brought a lot of laughter and excitement. Representing 25 academic units and eight administrative units, nearly 1,500 people participated in the event.

Full of health, vitality, and creativity, the NPUST celebration activities are a friendly welcome for everyone to join in the fun, enjoy the warm spring weather, and experience a beautiful time filled with youthful vigor on NPUST’s picturesque campus in sunny Pingtung.
