97th Anniversary Kicks Off with Campus Run

This year NPUST marks the 97th year since the founding of the school; and with a campus road race setting things in motion, from March 21 to March 26, a series of sporting events and celebratory activities have been scheduled to give everyone an opportunity to get active and have some fun.

Vice-President for Administration, Professor Chao-Lin Tuan, offered some remarks, stating that “today’s road race is the first activity of our university’s 97th Anniversary Games. At this time, we are very glad to also have faculty and staff from Feng-shan Senior Commercial and Industrial Vocational School here together with us to participate in this grand event. We hope this running race will be a beautiful opening for the school’s 97th Anniversary Celebration and we wish NPUST, great success.”

To commence the race, the youngest group, representing the university’s kindergarten, took the lead. For college levels and up, the competition was divided into 5km and 3km routes, with men’s and women’s student groups and men’s and women’s teacher/staff groups competing. Vice-President Tuan personally shot the starting pistol to send the nearly 1000 participants from NPUST and 30 from Feng-shan vocational school off and running.

The route started at the gymnasium and went past the stadium, botanical garden, tropical orchard, lychee garden, the pasture area and Lover’s Hill—giving everyone a nice tour of the environment and allowing them take in the beauty of the campus while they ran.

At the end of the race, in addition to the top 20 awards for the various categories, there was also a raffle prize for each group, with every participant eligible to win. The prizes included book vouchers, 7-11 merchandise cards, and coupons for PX Mart, Carrefour, Pacific Department Store, and the Wangpin Steak restaurant. And for the grand prizes, some lucky runners could win a Nintendo SWITCH or one of two new iPhone 13 mobile phones. Hopes were that the first event of the Anniversary Celebration would be a fun and exciting time for everyone who took part, with those from the school and friends from off-campus celebrating and enjoying the festive atmosphere together.
