National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST), which has long been dedicated to promoting popular science education and University Social Responsibility (USR), recently participated in the “5th Love and Kindness Carnival” held at the National Taiwan Science Education Center.
Led by Professor Hudson Hsu from the Smart Mechatronics Bachelor Degree Program, the popular science education team joined forces with Associate Professor Chia-Wei Hsu’s team from National Formosa University (NFU) to jointly promote aerospace science education. The event invited NPUST Vision Project students to serve as science volunteers, guiding parents and children through fixed-wing drone simulations and teaching coding principles using Morse code tools. By transforming difficult aerospace and physics knowledge into vivid interactive experiences, the event allowed children to feel the power of love through scientific exploration.
This event was a key component of the “Trilogy of Happiness” promoted by the Little Tree Charity Association. Centered around the theme of “Feeling Love: The Journey of the Soul and Science,” it attracted nearly 200 children from new immigrant families and families from hollowed out farming towns and remote areas to participate in a three-day, two-night kindness camp. Through the application of science and technology, the NPUST team not only provided diverse immersive experiences but also extended the reach of science education to resource-scarce families through cross-school collaboration.
Professor Hudson Hsu stated that “receiving help, growing, and helping others in return” was the guiding spirit the event— it became a very meaningful demonstration of the students’ ability to transition from “those who are helped” to “those who help others.” Furthermore, by participating in science volunteer services, the Vision Project students were able to turn the educational support they received in the past into an opportunity to give back to society. In this way, we could see university social responsibility put to practice while also allowing scientific knowledge and humanistic care to take root.
