To actively promote international development and deepen higher education cooperation between Taiwan and Thailand, a delegation from the College of Engineering at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST), led by Dean Tien-Chien Chen, along with Dean of International Affairs Vincent Ru-Chu Shih and faculty representatives from the College of Engineering, visited King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), Kasetsart University (KU), and Chulalongkorn University (CU) in Thailand from July 1 to July 3, 2026. This visit focused on key issues such as joint research, faculty exchange, student exchange, master’s dual degrees, overseas internships, and international research cooperation, successfully establishing multiple items of cooperative consensus and further expanding NPUST’s collaboration network with top universities in Thailand.
Centered around the core themes of “Smart Technology” and “Sustainable Development,” the exchange featured faculty matching and academic discussions based on research expertise. The College of Engineering showcased its signature research achievements, including smart vehicles, autonomous driving technology, AI-powered agricultural robots, smart manufacturing & automation, green materials & optoelectronic semiconductors, net-zero carbon emissions & circular economies, Nature-based Solutions (NbS), smart civil engineering, and slope disaster prevention. Their presentations garnered high attention from the Thai counterparts and sparked in-depth discussions on future collaborative research and talent cultivation models.
All three universities expressed a clear willingness to engage in further cooperation. In addition to expanding student exchange activities, KMUTT hopes to further promote faculty joint research and international scientific research projects to establish transnational research teams. KU will actively promote student exchanges, overseas internships, and co-taught courses, providing students with more opportunities for international mobility and cross-cultural learning. Meanwhile, CU will match relevant research centers and faculty teams to promote graduate student exchanges, co-advising, and short-term research cooperation.
Dean Tien-Chien Chen stated that the NPUST College of Engineering has long been committed to smart engineering, sustainable technology, and cross-disciplinary innovative development. This visit not only successfully showcased the university’s research characteristics and international competitiveness but also established a foundation for subsequent cooperation through faculty research matching. Moving forward, the college will continue to promote transnational joint research, student exchanges, dual degrees, and international internships—thereby integrating research resources from both sides to jointly cultivate engineering and technology talent with a global perspective and cross-disciplinary capabilities.
