Global Views Monthly recently announced their 2026 list of Taiwan’s Best Universities, and National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) secured 3rd place overall and 1st among technological and vocational universities in the category of Agriculture, Forestry, Fishery, and Animal Husbandry as per the “University Peer Evaluation”. Furthermore, it achieved an excellent 2nd place ranking among technological and vocational universities in the “Comprehensive Performance – Southern Region” category. This once again demonstrates NPUST’s steady advancement in key areas of higher-education and its reputation as a scientific research powerhouse in southern Taiwan when it comes to the ongoing development of smart agriculture, biotechnology, engineering technology, veterinary medicine, and management innovation.

Global Views Monthly has conducted its “Taiwan’s Best Universities Ranking” since 2016, meaning this year marks its marking its 11th edition. This survey evaluates institutions across six major dimensions, including social reputation, academic achievement, teaching capacity, degree of internationalization, industry-academia performance, and financial stability. It encompasses 53 indicators and 77 sub-indicators which highlight the distinct higher-education management characteristics of Taiwan’s colleges and universities. In this year’s evaluation, NPUST also secured 2nd place among public technical and vocational universities in the “Social Reputation” dimension, while its “Industry-Academia Performance” ranking rose by one spot over to last year (2025).

NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang stated that, facing the trends of Taiwan’s prospective technological development and industrial transformation, NPUST builds upon its century-old educational foundation to continuously deepen its featured research and innovative development. It has also become a key academic partner in scientific research and technological advancement for major government-promoted policies. The university has constructed a comprehensive software and hardware environment for research and development, connecting teaching, research, hands-on practice, and industrial application. It features over 35 practical training sites—including a green-energy bio-factory, timber processing plant, smart agriculture center, aquatic species conservation center, simulated food GMP production line facility, and veterinary teaching hospital—providing comprehensive talent cultivation and R&D momentum in these areas.

Rooted in smart agriculture technology, NPUST has continuously expanded into biotechnology, engineering technology, environmental sustainability, food safety, animal medical care, ecological conservation, and health care. By integrating emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, drones, big data analysis, and net-zero sustainability, the university has established a complete R&D system spanning from basic research and technology development to industrial application. It cultivates professionals equipped with specialized skills, cross-disciplinary capabilities, and global perspectives, thereby enhancing its contribution to national technological innovation and industrial development.

Building on its strong standing in the 2026 CommonWealth Magazine University Citizen Awards, NPUST has earned fresh acclaim in the Global Views rankings. Moving forward, the university will advance its specialized research, align with national and industrial needs, and elevate its global competitiveness to become a leading research-driven science and technology university.
