NPUST Showcases USR Achievements at Senior Health Expo

The “Intergenerational Co-prosperity and Happy Companionship” project, led by Professor Huey-Fen Su from the Department of Recreational Sport and Health Promotion at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST), was invited by the Ministry of Education to participate in the second annual Senior Health Expo. This year’s expo, themed “Rejuvenate”, featured six major exhibition areas (Health Care, Smart Technology, Financial Security, Long-Term Care Services, Livable Cities, and Daily Life). The event brought together 350 key companies and 1,200 booths. The NPUST team had the opportunity to exchange ideas on university social responsibility (USR) with partners from academia, government, and the private sector and explore sustainable development issues related to senior care and intergenerational integration.

Professor Huey-Fen Su said that they “hope that through this exhibition, society will see that a university is not just a place for teaching and research, but also an important force for driving local innovation and community transformation.”

The NPUST exhibition was a comprehensive display of the university’s on-the-ground efforts and cross-disciplinary collaboration, featuring a wide range of achievements, including:

  • Senior-Friendly Water Bag Training Modules
  • Community Sports Field Safety Inspection Handbook for Seniors
  • Soft-Texture Nutritional Recipes for Seniors
  • Financial Security Management Handbook for Seniors
  • Intergenerational Learning Activity Designs

Among these, the Senior-Friendly Water Bag Training Module was unveiled to the public for the first time. Its innovative and senior-friendly design drew many visitors who wanted to try it out, and it received a very positive response.

The NPUST team not only showcased the results of its interdisciplinary USR partnerships but also hoped to spark an important social conversation: “Can seniors live their lives with more dignity and warmth? And how can different generations overcome their differences to achieve understanding and co-prosperity?”

“Platinum Society” is one of NPUST’s long-term development focuses. The project is guided by the core values of “Intergenerational Co-prosperity and Happy Companionship” and involves six departments and research units at the university. It promotes four key initiatives: Intergenerational Exercise, Intergenerational Nutrition, Intergenerational Knowledge Transfer, and Happy Intergenerational Companionship. These initiatives provide a holistic approach to the physical and mental well-being and dignity of both the young and the old, from physical activity and nutrition to knowledge sharing and emotional connection.

The exhibition area included an interactive zone where the public could personally experience the water bag training and get a firsthand feel for how unstable water flow can effectively train core strength and balance. The static displays featured results of research conducted on safety-designed spaces, nutritional menus, and knowledge transfer handbooks. Looking ahead, NPUST plans to continue its systematic and localized approach to senior health education and care models through educational innovation and deep community involvement, aiming to become a model for practical, hands-on learning. This will allow visitors to understand the true meaning of being “senior-friendly” society.
