Professor Saou-Lien Wong from the NPUST Department of Aquaculture has led a research team on a lengthy search for native seaweeds in Taiwan which contain properties conducive to cell reparation, anti-inflammation and health benefits. Through their work they have developed a variety of seaweed products, including hand lotions, repair creams, soothing creams, massage creams and more. Hoping to share the results of their research with and give back to those who are always working hard to keep the community healthy, a donation ceremony was held on August 7 at Pingtung Hospital of the Ministry of Health and Welfare and a batch of seaweed hand lotion was presented to the medical staff to thank them for standing at the forefront of medical care.
University president, Chin-Lung Chang, said: “NPUST has always been committed to promoting research and development and looking for innovative technologies and products that can benefit society. The research team led by Professor Saou-Lien Wong at our Department of Aquaculture has long been focusing on Taiwan’s native seaweeds and they have successfully developed seaweed products for cell repair, anti-inflammation, and other health functions. In order to thank medical staff at the Pingtung Hospital for their long-term persistence and hard work, we have specially prepared a batch of seaweed hand lotion to share with them. This product can effectively reduce the risk of infection, and we hope to help medical workers reduce skin damage from frequent hand cleaning and disinfection.”
Director Yi-lun Li of Pingtung Hospital thanked the university president, Director Ying-Nan Chen of the Department of Aquaculture, Professor Saou-Lien Wong and her research team, and expressed hopes for exchanges in the future, and the promotion of more research and development and cooperation so as to enhance one another’s capabilities.
The health product donation was an expression of NPUST’s respect and gratitude for frontline medical staff, and also demonstration the school’s concern for environmental protection and social responsibility.
