NPUST Centennial Celebration Salon Concert Held at University History Museum

At 100 years, NPUST is in ready to celebrate—and to set the tone, the NPUST University Anniversary Preparatory Group organized a special “Centennial Celebration Salon Concert” for music lovers on campus. The concert, which was held on June 11th (2024) at the University History Museum, was co-organized by the Center for General Education, the Division of Student Activity (Office of Student Affairs), the Library and Exhibition Hall, and the Personnel Office.

With instrumental performances by students and teachers, and singing by the faculty choir, NPUST’s rich cultural atmosphere was on full display. The choir, which was formed in February (2024), kicked things off with a performance of “Why We Sing” and the Taiwanese folk song “Four Seasons Red”. Conducted by renowned music teacher Jing-Ching Wang, the beautiful singing and lovely piano accompaniment by teacher Meng-ting Chen, left a deep impression on the audience.

The singing was followed by a dulcimer performance of “Colorful Clouds Chasing the Moon” and “Light Years Away” by Han-Li Yeh, who played with exquisite skill. Han-Li Yeh won the silver medal in the solo category for 18 years and older at the 2024 China Yangqin Elite Performance International Competition.

For the concert finale, Chia-Chin Wu first played “Night Wind” by Charles Griffes—a ‘tone painting’ rich in color and filled with imagery of literature and nature. This was followed by William Bolcom’s “The Serpent’s Kiss”, a piece which uses a challenging improvisation style to express the sentiments of the story of the Garden of Eden.

The concert was a musical celebration of the campus culture at NPUST, with the performers sharing their talent and adding to the rich artistic atmosphere of the university as it commemorates its 100 years of development, and looks forward to many more.
