As part of their “2023-2 Professional English Innovative Teaching Course Project”, the NPUST Department of Fashion invited Ardha Ardea Prisilla, a lecturer from LaSalle University in Jakarta, Indonesia, to hold an “AI Fashion Work Camp” on April 10th and 24th (2024) and explore the “infinite possibilities of artificial intelligence in the fashion industry”. From creative stimulation in the design process to market trend predictions, artificial intelligence is redefining the future of the fashion industry. The workshop instructed on “Ktrain”, a Python library which can be used to help build, train, debug and deploy neural networks and other technologies in deep learning software.
Wei-Her Hsieh, director of the Department of Fashion, thanked the Center of Interdisciplinary Feature Development for funding the workshop, saying “applications that can combine AI with fashion design in the future, including machine learning and AI generative adversarial networks (GAN), can help designers create more creative and unique works. At the same time, there is potential for artificial intelligence to change retail business models, predict consumer trends, and help the fashion industry achieve more sustainable production and supply chain management”.
Yu-Tung Lin, a student from the department, said that “in this course, I learned about the procedures and techniques of program operations, and also performed actions such as collecting images and materials. I was also able to understand that, in order for AI to operate, a huge database must first be established to enable it to learn to recognize or imitate things. It is a very interesting experience.”
