On November 25th (Saturday) at 10:30 am a Celebration and Awards Ceremony was held at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) to celebrate 99 years since the founding of the school. The ceremony took place at the Art Center in the Library and Exhibition Hall, where NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang was joined by distinguished guests from sister schools, both domestic and international, for the grand celebration. In addition to the ceremony, this year’s campus celebration naturally included the activities most popular among the students, including a lively market fair, the Department of Plant Industry achievement exhibition, and the Harvest Concert. In order to showcase the featured teaching and research results from the past year, a number of exhibitions were organized throughout the campus, including the “Higher Education Sprout Project Achievements Exhibition”, “U Life Market ◆ NPUST 99 Come & Play Carnival”, “Student Entrepreneurship and Innovation Exhibition” and “GreenMetric University Results Exhibition”. Alumni of all generations were welcomed back to their Alma Mater to reminisce with their teachers and classmates and witness the ways in which the campus continues to flourish.
In his remarks at the ceremony, NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang said “the prosperity that everyone sees now is the result of the hard work and efforts made by generations of teachers and alumni over the past 99 years. On this soil, in line with the spirit “benevolence” which is part of the school’s motto, we will continuously uphold the excellent academic styles inherited from past scholars, so that this school will become increasingly energetic and perform more and more brilliantly as it reaches 100 years old. We will also continue to move towards excellence and create greater glory for the school based on the foundations established by our predecessors.”
Spread out along Siwei Road, faculty, staff and students jointly put together 133 booths for the market fair and 48 booths for the Department of Plant Industry Achievements Exhibition. Meanwhile, in the atrium of the Library and Exhibition Hall, a Higher Education Sprout Project Achievements Exhibition showcased the four major aspects of the school’s Sprout Project, and introduced visitors to the work being done. Experiential and physical explanations, such as DIY coffee brewing with coffee products that teams developed or equipment testing for sports technology designed to improve the health of the elderly, were used to give the visitors a good feel for what’s happening. Complementing the exhibition, community USR Project partners co-organized the “U-life Market ◆ NPUST 99 Come & Play Carnival”, which displayed and sold products developed through the projects, and set up games to play. Following a day filled with activity, the Harvest Concert began as the afternoon faded into evening. With so many interesting things to do and see, the 99th Anniversary Celebration made a day to remember—and a time to inspire the entire university body, along with university partners, to continue to pursue greater achievements in the year ahead as the school moves towards its landmark centennial anniversary in 2024.
