NPUST and Pingtung County Police Bureau Sign MOU to Promote Traffic Safety

National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) and the Pingtung County Police Bureau signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for traffic safety cooperation on April 23rd (2026) at the university’s Humanities Building. The agreement, which was signed by NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang and Pingtung County Police Bureau Director-General Yen-Min Kan, will promote deeper collaboration between the parties in areas such as traffic safety curriculum planning and the provision of internships and part-time job opportunities.

INTEGRATING ACADEMIC KNOWLEDGE WITH PRACTICAL EXPERTISE

NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang stated that the MOU effectively integrates the technical capabilities of both parties to promote educational outreach and value-added industry-academic cooperation. Through the partnership, theoretical knowledge will be applied to real-world traffic environments, and by combining the Police Bureau’s professional expertise with practical case studies, students will be guided through the processes of analyzing accidents, identifying high-risk driving behaviors, and developing defensive driving mindsets. The Police Bureau will also work with affiliated engineering consultancy firms to offer NPUST students opportunities for internships and industrial training so that they will be able to enhance their career competitiveness.

DATA-DRIVEN GOVERNANCE AND THE 2026 SYMPOSIUM

In addition to the MOU signing, the Police Bureau hosted the “2026 Pingtung Safety and Protection: Cross-Domain Road Safety Governance Symposium” at the NPUST College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The event showcased Pingtung County’s performance in smart transportation and road safety improvements. Furthermore, it officially unveiled the results of the second-phase expansion and maintenance project for the “Accident Data Application Platform,” fulfilling the core philosophy of “data governance.”

The symposium gathered experts from industry, government, and academia for keynote speeches and discussions on future directions for smart transportation, road safety governance, and cross-domain collaboration. The Police Bureau noted that the expansion of the Accident Data Application Platform will continue, and that they will use data analysis to help government and police units formulate more precise traffic safety policies and create a safer and smarter transportation environment.

COMMITMENT TO PUBLIC SAFETY

President Chin-Lung Chang emphasized that smart transportation and road safety are critical issues for future societal development. Through the signing of this MOU, the university aims to not only improve students’ cross-disciplinary integration skills and employment competitiveness but also to give back to society by applying research results to reduce safety risks and fulfill the commitment to “promoting safety on roadways”.
