The 2026 National Intercollegiate Athletic Games (NIAG), organized by the Ministry of Education, will officially commence on Saturday, May 2. In lead up, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) held a flag-presentation ceremony on April 20th at 8:30 AM in the plaza in front of the Administration Building during which time the university president, Chin-Lung Chang, personally presented the school flag to the athletes and coaching staff—a gesture symbolizing the honor and mission that the school is entrusting them with as they depart for the upcoming competitions.
At this year’s games, NPUST has registered 12 representative teams across various disciplines, including Track and Field, Swimming, Badminton, Table Tennis, Tennis, Judo, Taekwondo, Wrestling, Karate, Woodball, Cycling, and Artistic Gymnastics. With a formidable lineup of 130 competing athletes, the university looks forward to seeing them demonstrate the fruits of their long-term training and win glory for the school.
In his address, President Chin-Lung Chang stated that the athletes will be carrying the school’s honor as they step onto the national competitive stage. Following the university’s outstanding performance last year (2025), he encouraged the teams to maintain that momentum while leverage their daily training to perform at their absolute best. He also reminded the athletes make a full effort in the competitions while still prioritizing safety as they approaching the challenges the games will present them wtih.
In last year’s games, NPUST achieved an impressive record of 5 gold, 4 silver, and 6 bronze medals, raising high expectations for this year’s performance. This year, in the Table Tennis competitions (which were scheduled early), NPUST successfully kicked off the campaign with podium finishes in the Men’s Individual Singles (3rd place) and Doubles (2nd place) in the General Category.
Looking forward, other highly anticipated gold-medal prospects include Po-Chang Huang, who is challenging for his fourth consecutive gold medal in the in Pole Vault event, National team athletes Ciou-tong Tung and Yi-Ting Hung, who are once again joining forces in Badminton with their sights set on the gold, and Hsueh Ting-An, a senior Taekwondo Poomsae specialist and the Captain of this year’s delegation, who, in her final competition before graduation, hopes to win honor for herself and the university and write a brilliant final chapter for her collegiate athletic career.
