The Smart Mechatronics Bachelor Degree Program at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) has long been promoting the “Southern Taiwan Dreams of Flying” University Social Responsibility (USR) project—an initiative which focuses on deepening aerospace science education and cultivating industrial talent in the Pingtung and Kaohsiung area. Furthering the cause, the university hosted the “AI × ESG High School Drone Technology Experience Camp” during the winter break, organizing activities under the theme of “Popular Science, Tourism and Revitalization”. The event attracted students from gifted science and mathematics classes at Pingtung Girls’ Senior High School, Feng-Shan Senior High School, and Chao-Chou Senior High School.
The camp combined hands-on courses in cutting-edge technologies—such as drones, robotic arms, and AI image recognition—with guided tours of local landmarks. By integrating science education with tourism, the program implemented the innovative model of “Travel is Learning and Learning Extends Beyond the Classroom,” while also inspiring students to pursue their dreams in aviation.
A FUSION OF INDUSTRY, ACADEMIA, AND INNOVATION
Professor Hudson Hsu, the General Project Leader, stated that the camp collaborated with corporate and NGO groups, including Royalty Wisdom Global Consulting Ltd., Leyo Travel Agency, and the Rotary Club of A-Kong-Dien, to plan a five-day technology experience program. Balancing theory with practical application, the curriculum covered principles of flight, drone industry development, flight simulator operations, aerial drone practice, industrial robotic arm applications, drone soccer competitions, and more.
