National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) celebrated its 101st Anniversary Sports Event this week, with festivities kicking off on November 24 (2025) with a “Campus Run” and the main Sports Day events taking place on the 27th and 28th.
The opening ceremony, led by NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang, took place on the afternoon of the 27th at the Mong Shang Gymnasium. Keeping with tradition, the ceremony incorporated an eye-catching Creative Entrance Competition and an exciting Cheerleading performance. Two outstanding athletes, Yu-Chi Chen from the Department of Fashion Design and Management and Ting-An Hsueh from the Department of Recreational Sport and Health Promotion, who have both won gold medals in national competitions, served as the representatives to take the Athlete’s Oath on behalf of the student body.
PRESIDENT’S REMARKS
In his address, President Chin-Lung Chang stated that the Anniversary Sports Day is a symbol of unity and teamwork within the university. He noted that while Taiwan has been actively promoting sports and physical education development in recent years, NPUST established the Department of Recreational Sport and Health Promotion many years ago and has taken a proactive approach to comprehensively enhance students’ athletic competitiveness.
CREATIVE ENTRANCE AND OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS
This year’s Creative Entrance Competition was divided into the Administrative Division and the Academic Division. The former was composed of 17 administrative units, including the NPUST Physical Education Office, Review Committee, the Secretariat, and the Working Dog Training Center, with the NPUST Kindergarten children concluding the procession. The latter included 46 colleges, departments, and graduate institutes. Each unit participated in the opening march with creative costumes, slogans, and formations, offering an entertaining and visually striking display that fully demonstrated NPUST’s vibrant campus culture and team spirit.
The ceremony also included the “2024 Academic Year Outstanding Sports Performance Award Ceremony”, where the NPUST athletes who won the table tennis and taekwondo championships at the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games presented their trophies to President Chin-Lung Chang and shared the glory they won for their school with everyone. Bringing the ceremony to a climax was a riveting cheerleading performance during which team members demonstrated NPUST’s spirit of courage and persistence through their highly synchronized formations, explosive movements, and daring tricks—combining elements of gymnastics, dance, and teamwork. The atmosphere was enthusiastic, with continuous cheers coming from the stands.
MAIN SPORTS DAY EVENTS
The main Sports Day competition officially began in the afternoon at the 200-meter standard track inside the Mong-Shang Gymnasium. The program included six Field Events and 26 Track Events, pitting competitors against each other in sporting competitions that required both explosiveness and endurance. Additionally, the annual classics, such as Tug-of-War and other Field Day games, were also held. This year, nearly a thousand athletes from 24 academic units and 8 administrative units participated in the games, making for a grand event.
