P.K. Evercovenant Biotech Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as P.K. Evercovenant) is National Pingtung University of Science and Technology’s (NPUST) first offshoot company, and is built upon four innovative, cross-disciplinary patented technologies. These technologies, which are employed under their SPRI Probiotics Low-Carbon Rice® system, enable a single bowl of rice to meet the requirements of health, carbon reduction, and sustainability.
On November 26 the company participated in the “2025 Startup Challenge” hosted by the Small and Medium Enterprise and Startup Administration (SMESA) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), and stood out among the competition to win first-prize in the Heath & Care category. The award ceremony was held at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Taipei City, where the team also had an exhibition booth set up to share their research results.
At the venue, the team demonstrated to industry, government, and academic professionals how they have used their “Five-Low Rice” (low-protein, low-sodium, low-phosphorus, low-potassium, and low-carbon emission) to create a comprehensive health-diet management toolkit for patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and those in high-risk groups. Their toolkit includes a CKD Food Box, an AI photo recognition meal identification system, and a Five-Low Shenmei APP that connects to Bluetooth blood glucose meters and a nutritional database. Covering everything from individual ingredients to complete meals, the system ensures product traceability while promoting healthy eating, responsible production, and climate action.
The award-winning contribution was the result of the concerted effort of the team members, including CEO Wen Luo, Hong-an Wang, and Jhu-Han Siao, under the leadership of Technical Advisor and Honorary Professor, Yu-min Wang.
Professor Wang stated that they “hope to use AI image recognition and long-term dietary data analysis to bring the type of precise nutritional care that was previously only available in nutrition clinics right to the patient’s daily dining table.” CEO Luo Wen remarked that “this award is a recognition of the team’s long-term dedication, and it further reminds us to make good use of the verification resources provided through the competition. Our goal is to see the Five-Low Rice, CKD Food Box, and Five-Low Shenmei APP be adopted by kidney and diabetic patients and become a trustworthy care partner for patients, their families, and medical teams”.
P.K. Evercovenant is built upon the years of experience accumulated by the research team in technological agriculture, nutrition, medical care, and AI technology. By integrating functional food ingredient research and development with digital tools, the company is dedicated to creating a care experience that is “palatable for the patient, visible to the medical staff, and manageable for the family.” In the future, the company plans to launch a CKD Food Box that combines Five-Low Rice and low-potassium vegetables on the Chimei e-commerce platform and other medical care channels, hoping to significantly improve the convenience of dietary management for patients.
