NPUST Deepens New Southbound Expertise: 30 Young Elites Join Specialized Program

National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) continues to leverage its strengths in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and animal husbandry to deepen educational exchange and cooperation with New Southbound Policy countries. This year (2025), for the third time, NPUST is participating in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ (MOFA) New Southbound Policy Elite Study Program.

This year, the specialized program welcomed 30 participants from five New Southbound countries (Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, and India), and on September 12, the Dean of the Office of International Affairs, Vincent Ru-Chu Shih, represented NPUST and led the program participants to the MOFA auditorium to attended the 2025 Joint Opening Ceremony which was presided over by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baushuan Ger.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dean Vincent Ru-Chu Shih expressed his gratitude to MOFA, saying “thanking you for the support, which has ensured the smooth implementation of this program. NPUST holds an international reputation in the fields of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and animal husbandry. In addition to professional coursework, the university has arranged Chinese language training and local field trips to help participants experience Taiwan’s diverse culture and enhance their cross-cultural communication skills”.

MOFA also commented that NPUST’s commitment to developing Smart Agriculture aligns with one of the key strengths required in the new era, and the program aims to encourage youth from the region to collaboratively seek solutions with Taiwan.

At NPUST, the program participants will be engaging in diverse fields of study, including Animal Science, Aquaculture, Food Science, Biotechnology, Animal Vaccines, Plant Medicine, and Agribusiness. Through specialized coursework and practical experience activities, the students will acquire both professional knowledge and technical skills which they will be able to apply towards agricultural and industrial development in the future.  

NPUST has a long-term commitment to internationalization and is actively expanding its educational cooperation with New Southbound Policy countries. The university will continue to apply its strengths in agricultural technology and sustainable development towards fostering professionals with a cross-cultural perspective, thereby building a more robust bridge of cooperation between Taiwan and its partnering nations.
