Cross-Field Collaboration at NPUST Department of Early Childhood Education Results in Wildlife Drama

The Department of Early Childhood Care at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) welcomed the performance of a heartwarming drama on June 18 (2025). With a plot based on four wildlife conservation picture books, 150 children from the NPUST non-profit kindergarten and the kindergarten attached to Houjin Elementary School (Kaohsiung) were immersed in the drama which brought them on an adventure with a group of “animal friends”.

The NPUST Department of Early Childhood Care said that the contents of the picture books, created by Assistant Professor Grace Pi-Hun Yang of the same department, were inspired by real cases from the NPUST wildlife shelter. Through the drama the lives of orangutans, crab-eating mongooses, desert tortoises, lions, and tigers were presented in stories that inspired the children to love and respect living things—and when the performance came to an end, the children spoke enthusiastically and expressed great interest in the subject matter.

The main theme of the drama was centered on “finding homes for injured and lost animals”, reflecting the spirit of the work done at the NPUST Wildlife Rescue Center. Its creation is also a demonstration of the university’s educational philosophy, which emphasizes “cross-domain cooperation, sustainable development, and respect for life”.
