NPUST Athletes Head Off for 2025 National Intercollege Athletic Game

The 2025 National Intercollege Athletic Games hosted by the Ministry of Education will officially begin on April 27th and run through to May 2nd with competitions taking place at various venues in the Greater Tainan City area. As per tradition, before sending off its athletes, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) held a flag-raising ceremony in the square in front of the Administrative Building. The ceremony began at 8:30 AM on April 21st with NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang personally presenting the school flag to the enthusiastic athletes and coaches who will represent their school at the upcoming games. Thirteen teams will be competing for the school this year in such events as track and field, swimming, badminton, table tennis, tennis, judo, taekwondo, wrestling, karate, woodball, cycling, gymnastics and kayaking. In total, 110 athletes will be representing NPUST at the competitions where they will demonstrate their sporting expertise and bring glory to their school.

Addressing the athletes in a speech, President Chin-Lung Chang said, “you will all be representing our school at the 2025 National Intercollege Athletic Games. Last year we saw very good performances, and we hope that this year our students will once again demonstrate the results of their hard training in various events and shine for their school once again. At the same time, you should all pay attention to your own safety as you give it your all”.

Last year NPUST won 10 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze medals at the National Intercollege Athletic Games, which was the best results in the school’s 100-year history. This year, key gold-medal hopefuls include Yu-sheng Peng in third-level freestyle wrestling, Chia-Hung Ho in men’s singles table tennis and De-yue Lu and Yi-Hsien Chen men’s doubles—all of whom are all striving for consecutive championship wins. In addition to these, Po-Chung Huang has set his sights on a third consecutive gold medal in the pole vault competition. Other strong candidates include national badminton team players Ciou-Tong Tung and Sung Shuo-yun, who will be representing NPUST at the competition, and second year master’s student Yi-Hsien Chen (this year’s captain), who has been winning championships for his school in table tennis since he began as a college student. Hopes are set high on these and the other athletes who will be shining for their school at this year’s competitions.
