Department of Wood Science and Design holds 2025 Graduation Exhibition: “WE DO!”

The Department of Wood Science and Design’s annual graduation exhibition was held from April 19th to 23rd (2025) in the Library and Exhibition Hall under the banner of “WE DO!”. The exhibition brought together three major professional fields of study, including furniture production, wood science, and spatial design—with 20 items on display. Combining innovative design, sustainable concepts, and local characteristics, highlights of the exhibition included the “Fiber Trace” bionic bicycle, “Birds Arrive Home” conservation project, the “RE:Act” modular architecture design for local revitalization on Penghu, and the “PIÉTON” bio-imitation leather. Among these, the “Fiber Trace” bionic bicycle frame was built using local agricultural waste products, with each frame allowing for the sequestration of 8.43 kg of carbon.

NPUST’s president, Chin-Lung Chang, attended the opening of the event. In his speech he said that the “graduation exhibition of the Department of Wood Science and Design fully demonstrated the school’s deep understanding and active practice of sustainable development, cross-disciplinary innovation and social responsibility. The students’ works are highly innovative and have practical application value. They successfully integrate local characteristics with international perspectives and they effectively respond to current global environmental challenges. These things demonstrate the important and unique leadership role NPUST is playing in the field of sustainable education in Taiwan. NPUST has long been committed to cultivating talent based on the core values of professional practice, innovative thinking and sustainable development, and here we see how our students are able to practice environmental sustainability and carbon neutrality while designing creative works”.

The theme of the exhibition, “WE DO!”, symbolizes the way in which students from different backgrounds worked together for creative and practical design results through continuous communication and interaction. It is a presentation of the Department of Wood Design’s long-term determination to promote sustainable design, and a showcasing of its professional strengths and innovative achievements in scientific research, wood product design, interior space planning and wooden structure architecture. In order to further promote sustainable design concepts and research results in the future, selected works from this exhibition will be displayed at the Kaohsiung Youth Design Festival (P2 Warehouse, Dayong Area, Kaohsiung Pier 2) from May 1st to 4th, and at the Taipei New Generation Design Exhibition (Hall 2 of the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center) from May 9th to 12th.
