NPUST Signals “Integration” at Annual Word Unveiling and New Year Gathering

NPUST held its annual New Year’s gathering and Chinese character unveiling ceremony on February 4th (2025) at the Library and Exhibition Hall. NPUST’s president, Chin-Lung Chang, and a number of teachers and colleagues gathered together to wish each other blessings in the “Year of the Snake”. At the event, a banner designed by calligrapher Li Guoyang was unveiled with this year’s character: “Rong” (融). The character signifies diversity, inclusion and unity, and is intended to bring good luck at the start of the Year of the Golden Snake. During the gathering, a lively and festive dance performance was put on by an adorable bunch of kindergarteners from the university’s affiliated kindergarten and a handful of fun activities were organized.

In his speech NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang said, “with respect to school development, in recent years we have attached importance to the implementation of USR and activities which are in line with the United Nations SDGs and the government’s 2050 net zero emission goals. We are also continuing to integrate the spirit of sustainable development into education, research & development, operations, and social services while bringing together the features of each of our colleges in order to cultivate agricultural professionals and promote research on Smart agricultural. This year, we chose the word “rong” as the annual representative word to symbolize diversity, inclusion, unity and comprehensive integration. Last year, the Ministry of Education announced the results of its review for the fourth phase of the University Social Responsibility Practice Project, and all of the applications that our school submitted were approved. On the global University Impact Ranking we also jumped 100 places compared to the previous year. To see such impressive results in the same year that we witnessed and celebrated the 100th anniversary of National Pingtung University of Science and Technology is something we are grateful for, and so we thank the entire faculty and student body for their hard work and continuous efforts. In accordance with this year’s representative word, “rong”, I hope to see everyone at NPUST integrate with one another, unite as one, and reach new milestones together as we open up a new page for the next 100 years of NPUST.” This year, in order to promote the administration’s campus internationalization policy, creative activity booths were set up, and international students were invited to come and have fun together with faculty members. Activities called participants to write out “Happy New Year” in different languages, challenge themselves with rope skipping and grip strength exercises, and test their English skills with a nine-square guessing game on health topics. Other clever “snake” themed activities were also organized to celebrate the “Year of the Snake” and add to the fun. The event, which has become an annual tradition, allowed students and teachers from around campus to come together and celebrate the beginning of spring through multicultural activities and wish one another new year blessings as they prepared for the beginning of a new semester.
