The 7th “Ping-Yeh Science Festival and Harbor Capital National Defense Day” organized by Professor Hudson Hsu of the NPUST Smart Mechatronics Bachelor Degree Program was successfully held at Kaohsiung Gangshan Heping Elementary School on November 10, 2024, attracting more than 4,000 people visitors—which was a record turnout. The event was organized under the support of the Ministry of Education’s USR Project and the National Science Council’s Science Popularization Project. For the fair, 40 universities, high schools and institutions came together to set up 100 interactive booths covering such themes as artificial intelligence, robotics, national defense education and environmental sustainability. The Rotary Club and local businesses also showed their support for the event, which has already become an important annual opportunity to promote scientific education, by providing financial and human resources.
Professor Hudson Hsu said that the science festival is being used to promoted local economic and cultural development, and through activities, it also helping cultivate local small farmers’ cultural and creative industries and urban tourism-related industries. In this way, it is able to further strengthen the connection between science education and local industries. National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) is actively cooperating with local communities to extend science education from the classroom to the community as it works to fulfill its University Social Responsibility (USR) and inject new impetus into local development. In the future, the university will continue to deepen its cooperation with local governments and promote more influential and innovative education and industry integration programs.
