The NPUST Sustainable Healthcare Center has been cooperating with the Pingtung County Health Bureau since April this year on a “Community Health Education Promotion for Dementia” initiative. Collaborating with medical professionals, three sessions have already been held, with hundreds of members of the community coming to learn about dementia-related diseases and care methods. The goal is to raise awareness of warning signs so that timely diagnoses can be made, and dementia can be prevented or delayed.
The third installment of the series was held in Pingtung ‘s Xinyuan Township on May 14th (2024). Township Mayor Kuan-Ting Fang hosted the event, and Township Representative Yan-chiu Song and Councilor Wen-Cheng Fang presided over the opening ceremony.
Dr. You-ming Chen from Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital provided the publicity lecturer for hundreds of community members who gathered for the event. Dr. Chen provided the relevant information to the participants in a lively, easy-to-understand manner, and interacted enthusiastically with the members of the community. He advocated that dementia should not be regarded as an inevitable result of normal aging—it should be recognized and addressed to avoid delays in diagnosis and treatment.
