NPUST Schedules USR Stop for Taiwan Island-Round Science Education Train

With support coming from the National Science Council, Ministry of Education, and many large enterprises, the annual “Taiwan Island-Round Science Education Train” has been able to make some extra stops at local campuses to help out with science-based educational activities. Cooperating with partners in the Pingtung area, the “train” headed for the campuses of Renhe Elementary School and Linbian Elementary School in Linbian Township on the eve of “Children’s Day” (April 2~3, 2024). A USR team from National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) and Rotary International District 3510 helped organize the event, putting together activities designed to promote science education and national defense. NPUST Professor Hudson Hsu served as the moderator for the Pingtung region and invited multiple organizations, including the Air Force Aviation Institute of Technology, Cheng Shiu University, Shih Chien University, the Rotary International 3510 Regional RYE Committee, ARMSource, and others to join the team. A science market and experiential activity booths were set up, and the Community Development Association organized a charity sale and lively campus fair.

Visitors had a chance to take part in a variety of experiential activities, which taught them about pneumatic line-throwing guns, clam and pig identification, electrical wiring, polarizing lens experience, gravity and inertia, atmospheric pressure, and much more.

Additionally, Rotary International District 3510 invited 8 foreign exchange high school students from six countries, including the United States, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Thailand to participate in the activities. Under the leadership of the 3510 district chairman, D.G. Kent, and his team, they held a “Science and Technology English Challenge” and “Parachute Water Rocket” experiential activity to promote science education. The venue was like a small international carnival, and the educational and entertaining atmosphere was full of enthusiasm.
