2024 Wood Design Project Shows How “?” + “!” = “♡”

This year’s (2024) graduating class of the NPUST Department of Wood Science and Design carried out a series of creations under the thematic design formula of “? +! = ♡”. The series was comprised of three project categories including “product design”, “spatial design” and “wooden resource material development and application”. A total of 32 creative works and research results were exhibited on the first floor of the Library and Exhibition Hall from April 22 (Mon.) to April 26 (Fri.).

The opening ceremony was held on April 23 (Tuesday), with Vice President Shang-Min Ma, Director Rui-Fen Yang of the Pingtung Branch of the Forest and Nature Conservation Agency, Dean Jue-Liang Hsu of the College of Agriculture, Director Jing-sheng Lin of the Department of Wood Design, Chairman Wen-Hua Yu Wenhua of Medusa Paints, and Chairman Shih-Hsien Kuo of Ever Green Timber Products Co., Ltd. among the honored guests in attendance.

In the exhibition’s thematic design formula (?+!=♡), the question mark symbolizes curiosity, and the exclamation mark represents surprise. The merger of the two creates a feeling of love, which can also be interpreted as “attractiveness”. The works are intended to inspire curiosity, so that observers will want to learn more about the creative concepts and the stories behind them—and they should ultimately generate feelings of admiration, surprise, and love.   During the opening ceremony, a contract ceremony was held to recognize the formal cooperation between NPUST and Ho Ching Enterprise. NPUST’s Vice President for Education Shang-Min Ma and Ho Ching’s Manager Yi-Jie Wang each represented their organizations for the occasion. Ho Ching Enterprise is a manufacturing company that produces wooden desks and chairs for all the primary and secondary schools in Taiwan. It is currently cooperating with the NPUST Wood Design Department design and develop new wooden desks and chairs which are suitable for today’s school children. The project is expected to be completed prior to the start of the 2025 school year.
