Under the guidance of the Pingtung Branch of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency (Ministry of Agriculture), the NPUST Department of Wood Science and Design held the “Forest to the Fourth Power” results exhibition and market at the Linhou Silin Flat Forest Park on December 9th and 10th (2023). This event was planned by project leader, Zhao-Jun Deng, and his team from the Department of Wood Science and Design. Creative works made from domestic materials were put on display, and experiential activities were organized for elementary school students to promote “wood education”. NPUST Vice-President Wen-Ling Shih and Director Rui-Fen Yang of the Pingtung Branch of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency were joined on the opening day by principles and other representatives of the five local elementary schools participating in the activity.
The works presented were developed according to a theme of “large games, toys and teaching aids”. These were created by 16 wood design students in their spare time over the duration of the semester using Taiwanese fir, Chinese fir, Japanese Cedar, Zelkova, Taiwan Acacia, mahogany, Beadtree and other local tree species. Visitors to the exhibition were invited to take part in on-site hands-on DIY activities and experience the fun and beauty of woodworking.
In recent years, through the cooperation of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, NPUST and industry leaders, the use of domestically produced timber has been effectively promoted. The aim is to help more people understand the importance of domestically produced wood and allow for a more sustainable use of land resources so that together we can build a green and more sustainable future.
