On the evening of December 18th (2023), the NPUST Indonesian Student Association held its annual Indonesian Festival celebration at the square in front of Shuyun Hall. Under the banner of “Wonderland Indonesia”, the event was kicked off by International College Dean, J.C. Leong; Office of International Affairs (OIA) Vice-Dean, Yuh Tzean; OIA Education Director Chun-Yi Lee; and Indonesian Student Union President, Domas Galih Patria, and Planning Representative, Annisa Oktafianti Nurlatifah.
The celebrants were a very international group, including students from Taiwan, Honduras, Gambia, Belize, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Nepal, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Eswatini, Pakistan, Philippines, Vietnam, St. Lucia, Nicaragua, and Mexico.
Dean J.C. Leong of the International College expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian Student Association saying “thank you for carefully arranging the activities under the theme of ‘Wonderland Indonesia’, and for sharing Indonesian culture and authentic Indonesian food with us; and thank you for enhancing international friendship between students of different nationalities. We always hope to see more international students join in, and share the cultural characteristics of their hometowns with everyone—thank you to everyone for your enthusiastic participation.”
Currently NPUST has 515 international students from 42 countries—86 of whom are Indonesian (including short-term exchange students). Through the “Wonderland Indonesia” festival, local Taiwanese students and students from all over the world had a chance to interact and make new friends while experiencing and celebrating the Indonesian traditional festival together. Activities included Indonesian games, Indonesian traditional food tasting, singing performances, Indonesian traditional dances, and raffle prize. Singing, dancing and celebrating together, the event was a fun and happy way for the students to bring the year to a close as they prepare to welcome 2024.
