NPUST and Antai Hospital Hold EMT Training Course for Students

In order to promote emergency medical rescue training and strengthen on-campus rescue capabilities, the NPUST Department of Recreational Sport & Health Promotion has been cooperating with Antai Hospital for many years to provide training courses for students to obtain “Junior Emergency Medical Technician Certificates”. This year (’23), on December 9th, an eight-hour Junior EMT “refresher” course was held prior to the launch of the 40-hour “initial training” course, which took place over multiple weekends from December 10th to 24th. The written examination and technical test were held on the final day. Students who obtain certificates after passing the initial training must participate in three refreshers over a three-year period. This year, a total of 67 people took part in the refreshers, and 34 participated in the initial training. All of the participants from both group successfully passed their examinations.

Department of Recreational Sport & Health Promotion director Ming-Hong Chen said “in addition to cultivating sports-related knowledge and skills in our students, we also hope to strengthen their basic rescue capabilities for emergencies. In the future, whether they are working in sports injury prevention or as fitness instructors, the skills they acquire can be applied in the workplace and will enhance their employment competitiveness.”

The course content is well designed, with professional nurses from Antai Hospital teaching students about vital signs, traumatic and non-traumatic emergency assessments, cardiopulmonary resuscitation for adults and children, hemostasis, bandaging and much more. The two parties have been cooperating for ten years now, training 35 new students every year.
