On Sept. 11, 2023, Dean Yi-Yang Lien of the College of Veterinary Medicine called together animal heath professors from NPUST for a meeting with delegates from Indonesia’s Airlangga University (AU). The AU delegation included Dr. Mirni Lamid, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Rimayanti, Deputy Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine, and Dr. Mustofa Helmi Effendi.
Representatives of NPUST included Director Chao-Nan Lin of the Department of Veterinary Medicine, Director Yi-Lun Tsai of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Director Ming-Chu Cheng of the Animal Disease Diagnostic Center, Director Yao-chi Chung of the Graduate Institute of Animal Vaccine Technology, and Director Guo-Jing Weng of the Institute of Wildlife Conservation, Assistant Professor Ching-Min Sun of the Institute of Wildlife Conservation, Associate Professor Cheng-shu Chung of the Department of Veterinary Medicine, and Associate Professor Chuen-Fu Lin of the Department of Veterinary Medicine.
The meeting between the two parties took place at the NPUST College of Veterinary Medicine on the morning of Sept. 11, during which time the two parties had an opportunity to exchange with one another and explore future cooperation. Dean Yi-Yang Lien of the College of Veterinary Medicine said “we warmly welcome the delegation from Airlangga University. Since 2018, a sister-school partnership has been in place between our two schools and through long-term exchange and cooperation, the academic energy of both parties has become more refined. We hope that through this exchange, we will be able to deepen our good friendship, while also cultivating outstanding talents in related fields”.
Dr. Mirni Lamid, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Airlangga University said “following the signing of a dual master’s degree agreement between our Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences and the NPUST Department of Biotechnology in 2021, the results of academic and research cooperation have been outstanding. This has created the desire to further promote the establishment of a joint veterinary school between the two universities according to a dual academic system, and to encourage teacher and student exchanges and joint research in professional fields.”
During the symposium, Director Yi-Lun Tsai of the NPUST Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital gave a special briefing of the College of Veterinary Medicine, going over some of the achievements they have made in research and education in the field of veterinary medicine. An introduction of Airlangga University was provided by their Deputy Dean of their Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Mustofa Helmi Effendi, who covered the Faculty’s background and related fields of research.
In the afternoon, Director Chao-Nan Lin of the Department of Veterinary Medicine accompanied the foreign delegates on visits to various sites where professional teachers provided guided tours. The guests were introduced to the bone specimen preservation, small animal surgery, imaging work, and veterinary blood transfusions which are conducted at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. They also got a look at the equipment at the Animal Biologics Pilot Production Center, and toured the Wildlife Conservation Research Institute. Hopes are that through discussions, on-site visits, and exchanges, both parties will be able learn from one another as they look for new ways to strive for excellence together.
