NPUST Sends Off Athletes for 2023 National Intercollege Athletic Games

The annual National Intercollege Athletic Games are about to begin; and as per tradition, on April 14th NPUST held a flag-presentation ceremony for its athletes on the square in front of the Administrative Building. The enthusiastic athletes and coaches representing the university at the upcoming games received the school flag from NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang during the ceremony. This year, a total of 12 teams and 114 competitors from NPUST will be testing their mettle in track & field, swimming, badminton, billiards, tennis, judo, taekwondo, wrestling, woodball, cycling, boxing, and gymnastics.

During the ceremony, President Chin-Lung Chang said, “each athlete is representing the university at the National Intercollege Athletic Games. It is a great honor both for the individuals and for the school. The school has provided quality training facilities for its athletes to use and we hope that our students will do very well in all their competitions, and will bring into play the results of their hard work and training. And as you compete, you must always pay attention to your own personal safety. I wish all the athletes great results and glory for the school.”

Last year, NPUST brought home 6 gold medals, 1 silver and 8 bronzes from the competition. Everyone is looking forward to seeing great achievements from NPUST’s athletes once again this year. This year, one key event for the gold medal will be Team Billiards. Other favorites are Judo and Wrestling, with sophomore student Yu-Sheng Peng expected to repeat last year’s success by once again taking home a gold in each competition. Peng is serving as the captain for all the participating NPUST athletes at the 2023 Games.

The 2023 National Intercollege Athletic Games will be held at Chung Yuan Christian University in Chungli from April 27th to May 10th. With encouragement from NPUST’s President Chin-Lung Chang adding to the athletes’ confidence, hopes are that the intense training of the athletes over the past year will produce favorable results, and the students will be able to demonstrate their talent and win honor for their school.
