A joint team from National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) and the Air Force Institute of Technology are working together to promote industry 4.0 robotic arm and aerial drone applications, as well as new knowledge related to national defense technology. The aim is to broaden young students’ horizons and get them inspired about the technological drive currently happening world-wide. From February 1st to 3rd (2023), a Rotary Youth Leadership Award Study Camp was held at Kaohsiung Pier 2 CitySuites Hotel for 200 students connected to elite, second-generation businesses in Kaohsiung, Pingtung and Taitung.
The event was sponsored by 93 Rotary Clubs scattered throughout the three regions. A total of 200 high school and college age students associated with elite second-generation businesses participated in the camp. There were also 10 international exchange students from the United States, Britain, France, Germany and other countries who joined in for the three-day, two-night journey through a world of technology, national defense, and intellectual exchange. Kendo and boating competitions were also scheduled in for some added fun.
The science and technology based defense courses were jointly instructed by Professor Hudson Hsu of NPUST and Professor Chia-Wei Hsu of the Air Force Institute of Technology. The courses helped promote national defense aviation science and industry applications for robotic arms. The students tried out live aerial photography and other multi-functional features of four-axis aerial drones and learned about programming, IoT operations, and cargo handling. The camp gave the participants a chance to learn about the applications of current technologies, and will help them to get a vision for what future life and warfare will look like—making for a both shocking and deeply reflective experience!
