In order to encourage local and international students in their learning and help them improve their English and Chinese language skills, the NPUST Language Center organized a Christmas-themed “rapid language exchange” activity, which convened at noon on December 21st.
The director of the Language Center, Herlin Chien, said that “the NPUST Language Center is continuously working to improve the effectiveness of full-English learning. By combining interesting language learning activities, we are able to promote these skills—through activities like “rapid language exchanges” and “English writing consultations”, students have access to more diversified choices and can find more motivation to come and study. We hope that students will make language learning part of daily life, and the Language Center will continue to use rich and diverse content to help them to love learning foreign languages”.
William Hsu, a language instructor at the Center, said “such language learning allows people from different cultures and countries to use English to have meaningful communication and exchange and it strengthens learning results. This activity allows students to immerse themselves in an international learning environment as they cooperate with one another. Through a communication-based learning approach, learning foreign languages can be very fun and interesting”.
The activity was designed to give local and foreign students an opportunity to interact and broaden their international fields of vision. In addition to local Taiwanese students, foreign students participating in the activity came from Belize, the Marshall Islands, Nepal, India, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Japan. William Hsu directed the event, using Chinese and English to explain the tasks and help the local and foreign students to work together. Through interesting and interactive activities, including a Christmas gift guessing game and a question and answer game, students had the chance to improve their language skills while also becoming more familiar with one another’s cultures.
Hopes are that the activity will encourage the students in their learning and help add to the professional, international and holistic campus learning environment that NPUST is continuously working to uphold.
