NPUST Attains 5-Stars on Six QS Performance Indicators

To help ensure that the university is meeting sustainability goals as it works towards becoming a highly reputable institute of higher learning, NPUST took part in the QS World University Rankings this year (2022) for the first time. QS, which is one of the most widely viewed university rankings in the world, assesses universities according to 8 dimensions; namely, teaching, facilities, innovation, internationalization, professional advantages of curriculum, graduate employability, academic development, and inclusiveness. In its first ever QS assessment, NPUST earned an “overall” rating of 4 stars (very good), while achieving 5 stars (excellent) on six of the eight dimensions (only leaving out internationalization and professional advantage of curriculum). The results are an affirmation of the fact that NPUST has achieved excellence from an international perspective when it comes to teaching quality, employability of graduates, academic development, quality of infrastructure, teacher and student innovation/entrepreneurship, and assistance and counseling for disadvantaged students.

NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang thanked the teachers and students of the entire school for their hard work and enterprise, saying “the success of the school’s overall performance was affirmed by the four-star assessment”. Chang also pointed out that their hard work was evident based on other assessments. “Because of the efforts of all our teachers and students, NPUST has won first place in the country on the GreenMetric University Ranking for eight consecutive years—from 2014 to the present. And in the 2021 evaluation, NPUST ranked 29th globally, becoming a model campus for sustainability. In the future, NPUST will expand on its excellent achievements in GreenMetrics as it formulates a strategy to become a zero carbon emission campus and establish symbiosis between the university and the environment”. When it comes to internationalization, Chang added that “in the future, we will strengthen international exchanges and cooperation, promote international integration, expand the recruitment of international students, and cultivate scientific and technological talent with international competitiveness”.

By participating in the QS ranking, NPUST hopes to help future students make choices based on holistic evaluations and more in-depth understandings of the school. The school’s excellent performance on so many indicators should work to enhance its reputation and attract more outstanding talent both from home and abroad.
