Back on the Hunt: OIA Launches Hunt Taiwan 2.0

With much care and attention to detail, the Office of International Affairs (OIA) has put together “Hunt Taiwan 2.0″—a follow up to the highly successful summer series which took place last year. The activity was developed to give overseas students at NPUST the opportunity to have a rich and exciting summer break as they enjoy a variety of activities designed to acquaint them with some of Taiwan’s unique attributes. For the first event, on July 21, MOE foreign scholar and alumni of NPUST, Korawit Chaisu, accompanied nearly 60 local and overseas students on a trip to Taiwan Indigenous Culture Park for off-campus field trip.

The dean of the Office of International Affairs, Pomin Li, said: “by holding these activities, students and teachers from Taiwan and abroad can better understand each other’s cultures and customs. As they interact with one another during the field trips, students are also able to improve their foreign language skills, and we hope that they will be able to create many good memories from their lives at school this summer.”

The group that visited the Taiwan Indigenous Culture Park included students from a number of different countries including Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand, Haiti, Somaliland, Malaysia, India, and Pakistan. At the park, the students enjoyed an Indigenous song and dance performance, learned some Indigenous expressions, and got to experience archery, beading, body art, the “giant swing” and other special activities. An English-speaking tour guide introduced the visitors to the history and culture of Taiwan’s indigenous people and the students were encouraged to compile the photos and videos they took from the event into short documentaries to share with other and to keep as memories as they look forward to the next field trip which will take them to Alishan on July 27~28.

Through the activities, overseas students not only have the opportunity to enrich their summers, but also to further integrate themselves into local culture and develop new perspectives as they interact with one another. Together, they will learn and grow and create many lasting memories from their time at NPUST.
