Fo Guang Shan Donates Smart Epidemic Prevention Gate

Abbot Yong Yan and a number of other representatives of Fo Guang Shan visited the campus on August 11th to present the school with a“Smart Epidemic Prevention Gate”, a generous donation given inconsideration of student health. The delegation, also included Lecture Hall Supervisor Shizai Hsu, Supervisor Suli Jiang, and Lecturer Hsiangtan Zhuang Yue, each of whom wishes health and safety to the students and faculty in the upcoming semester.

NPUST President Chang-Hsien Tai, Student Affairs Director Yao-Nan Wang and Library and Exhibition Hall Director, Shan-Ru Chao represented the university to accept the donation. To commemorate the act of kindness, President Tai presented the Fo Guang Shan delegation with a plaque of appreciation. The smart epidemic prevention gate has been placed at the main entrance of the Library and Exhibition Hall (facing Siwei Road). In the future, when entering the library, students will use the epidemic prevention gate to measure body temperature and disinfect their hands with alcohol spray.

NPUST President, Chang Hsien Tai remarked that “NPUST has had a relationship with Fo Guang Shan for many years. Fo Guang Shan’s philosophy of benevolence and compassion has nurtured the school and their advocacy for “good deeds, good speech, and good intentions” has inspired students. In the future we hope to combine the school’s face recognition technology or other sensors with the smart epidemic prevention gate to make it easier and safer for people to enter and exit the premises. We are very grateful to Fo Guang Shan for materially supporting the university with epidemic prevention and safety considerations for students, and also providing spiritual strength”.

Abbot Yong Yan said that “the smart epidemic prevention gates were jointly purchased and donated to Taiwan by foreign residents and benefactors. They were distributed to various branches and dojos in Taiwan for each district to allocate the donations. The Fo Guang Shan Pingtung Lecture Hall selected NPUST to be a recipient of the donation. With hopes that that students can continue to attend school during the epidemic period, the school became the first consideration”. Abbot Yong Yan also thanked the university for previously supplying Fo Guang Shan with electric vehicles and assisting with maintenance so that benefactors from all over the country are able to conveniently access the site. In the future Fo Guang Shan will continue to make every effort to help more people in need.

The Fo Guang Shan Pingtung Lecture Hall follows Master Hsing Yun’s philosophy of charity and welfare for society, and they are continuously caring for the physical and mental health of teachers and students at the universities. Their compassion, motivations and charitable deeds are admirable. Hopes are that with the efforts of all sectors of society, the epidemic will pass as soon as possible and healthy lifestyles will be restored.
