As part of an initiative by the Pingtung County Government to promote skills acquisition for local workers, this year it is teaming up with NPUST to launch the “Pingtung County Laborer University”. The NPUST Office of Continuing and Extension Education has been commissioned to organize the curriculum for the project.
On April 16th, the Pingtung County Government held a press conference to answer questions about the new program which will give workers in Pingtung County an opportunity to continue working while acquiring new skills.
The program was developed in response to demand for laborers among local businesses and will include courses on license acquisition for such things as waste disposal, forklift and crane operations, and vegetarian Chinese food cooking. There are also classes on basic UAV operations, practical mechatronics, and fruit and seasonal produce processing. On top of this, the program incorporates leisure and the science of living courses so that workers can enjoy long-term development or think about ways that they could start businesses which could contribute to the development of the county. The program is diverse and rich in subject matter, with over 1,100 hours of instruction. Anyone who is 15 years or older and living or working in Pingtung can sign-up. Registration for the course has now begun and those who are interested are welcome to register or contact the university for more information.
