NPUST Ranks on Cheers “Top 20 University Performance Growth Evaluation”

On February 25, Cheers magazine presented the results of the 2020 “Top 20 University Performance Growth Evaluation” and NPUST came 19th, nation-wide. A total of 148 university presidents across the country were invited to be part of the survey, with 129 accepting the call.

The results of the survey indicate that, currently, college and university presidents are placing their focuses on “university autonomy”, “enhancement of special features”, “internationalization of higher education brands”, and “interdisciplinary creative ability”. These developmental focal points are also closely connected with certain challenges inherent with low rates of birth in Taiwan. The Cheers magazine survey reflects various challenges that institutions of higher education are expected to encounter in the future and responses they will be taking to address those challenges. Through the process universities and colleges are learning from one another and developing better environments for higher education and vocational learning in Taiwan.

Another survey by Cheers which looks into “universities most loved by industry” has also been in issue for several years now. The results from the survey have demonstrated that for businesses, “level of education” is no longer the most important item of consideration when looking talent. Rather, the attributes that are currently winning the most attention from employers are “willingness to learn”, “stress tolerance” and “professional knowledge”.

In this survey NPUST ranked 31st nation-wide for its performance, and 10th out of all other technical and vocational institutions. In the future, the university will continue to promote courses which are suitable for cultivating the type of talent that will meet the needs of industry. This will be done by emphasizing interdisciplinary learning, strengthening students’ concern for society, increasing their fluency in the humanities, and enhancing their abilities to communicate and coordinate with others. Ultimately, the approach is designed to create a situation where businesses, students and the university are all maximizing their potentials.
